The poem The Raven by E.A. Poe tells the story of the tormented night of a man suffering over the death of his beloved, Lenore. A raven flies in through the window and perches on a bust of Pallas Athena, a symbol of reason. The man begins to question it about his grief and Lenore, asking if he will ever see her again in the afterlife. The raven replies always and only with one word: “Nevermore!” (“Mai più!”). With each question, its answer becomes more devastating for him, transforming from a simple echo into a condemnation: the certainty that his grief will never end. In the final stanza, the raven remains motionless like an eternal omen, while the man realizes that his soul will remain trapped forever in its own darkness, beneath the shadow of the bird.
