Pest Doctor - Graphite Melange Tote Bag
To protect themselves from "miasma" – the unhealthy odor blamed for the spread of the plague – Italian and French doctors in the first half of the 1600s wore a beak mask, inside of which aromatic herbs, including sage, rosemary, and lavender, were placed. Even when the plague subsided, the figure of the doctor dressed this way remained an iconic element of our culture, especially in Venice: it was adopted for Carnival and by the theater in comedies and tragedies, and its name semantically merged with many words of our Venetian language, even some unexpected ones.
